Characteristics of Ganglionic, Lobar, Cerebellar and Brain Stem Hemorrhage
ABSTRACT
Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), defined as hemorrhage in brain parenchyma in the absence of immediate trauma, can destruct various neuronal circuits with diverse intensities. With active recommendation of anti-hypertensive medication, the incidence of ICH tends to be decreased. However, death at 1 year for ICH is still about 50% and only 20% of patients are expected to be functionally independent at 6 months. Acute management of ICH including blood pressure and intracranial pressure control is one of the most important points for acceptable outcome. The neuroanatomic specific functions can be impaired by each ICH and careful neurologic examination can give us clue for damaged site of brain. In this brief review, anatomic site-based characteristics of spontaneous ICH will be discussed with special interests of management considerations.
