It is known that both gamma-aminobutyric acid type-A (GABAA) and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors are involved in alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Clinical feature of alcohol withdrawal symptome can appear within hours of last drink, but delirium typically dose not develop until 2 to 3 days after cessation od drinking.
